Thanks to continual habitation of most settlement units in this country, the gradual development in many places has reached a point that is not always compatible with the current lifestyle and way of using private and public spaces. Municipalities frequently face the problem of unused spaces and areas, oversized complexes that often no longer comply with today’s standards and norms. We also often encounter unsuitable modern development in a close neighbourhood of authentic historic buildings, usually the outcome of compromise solutions and lack of information on the part of the owners of these properties. On the other hand, most villages and rural settlements have some added value or values that distinguish them from other municipalities, and these need to be emphasised and protected.
